Bringing books to life.

One voice at a time.

Dana Allen - A Lifetime of Performance

Having done theater and puppetry pretty much all my life, I bring a wide range of character voices and accents to your project. A big part of why I love producing audiobooks is that the narrator is responsible for bringing all the roles in the book to life – the hero, the villain, the best friend, the comic relief, and beyond. And each needs their own unique voice.

Let’s connect to discuss how I can bring your audiobook to life.

Narration reel

With a versatile narration style, I’m able to adjust to meet the needed tone of a given scene or the overall style for your project. This narration reel contains a collection of five 30-second reads from different projects.

Character Voices & Accents

I have a very large variety of character voices and accents to select from when recording your project. Please enjoy this 63-second sampling of a few of them.

Sometimes words are hard - welcome to some behind the mic moments with these verbal slips, trips, and fails.

Testimonials

“Dana Allen is a brilliant narrator.  She did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life in my book, Deadly Withdrawal, An Aggie Underhill Mystery.  Dana was very professional and easy to work with.  She finished my audiobook both quickly and efficiently.  I'm very pleased with the outcome of my book and I look forward to working with Dana again on future projects.”

Michelle Ann Hollstein, author of Deadly Withdrawal

"Dana was amazing to work with. Her work was flawless and creative, and she took everything to the next level. It's rare to find a narrator who checks all the boxes, but she does without a doubt. 10/10 for service, speed, and professionalism. I would recommend her for any audiobook project going forward."

- Iris Knox, author of the Skygod Tribes

I adored working with Dana on my audiobook! She is a dream! Not only is she extremely talented - authentic French accent anyone? - but she is super communicative and kept me involved throughout each step of production. As an author, I LOVED that! It's amazing to watch the story unfold, and to have a say in the process. The thing I appreciated most was Dana's fifteen minute checkpoint with character voices, that was such a nice touch! I can't wait to work with Dana again, she's pretty much amazing!

- Cori Cooper, author of One-Quarter Villain

“Working with Dana Allen was an absolutely magical experience. She didn’t just read the lines of my book; she delved into each of the characters, understood them, and portrayed them more beautifully and accurately than I could’ve expected or even hoped of someone. She was professional, courteous, patient, and so kind. I was consistently blown away as I listened to my words spoken through her, often brought to tears or fits of laughter. I truly cannot get across how wonderful the experience was, how happy I was and am with the book, or how highly I think of her and her work.”

C Miller, author of Reave

“Even in the audition, I was super impressed by the quality of her voice work for my characters. Throughout the entire process, she was professional, kept ahead of schedule, and her work was stellar. I could not wait for the next batch of chapters to come in week by week, just to hear what she had done with it. Now that the book is out, the response from listeners confirms what I suspected all along - Dana hit it out of the park.

I definitely recommend Dana for your voiceover work, or simply for your listening pleasure!”

  • Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Young Adult, and Mystery are my favorite genres.

But I'm open to projects from others so please feel free to reach out to me even if your project is in a different genre.

  • I do not narrate anything sexually explicit and I do my very best to avoid strong language.

  • I can usually complete 3 finished hours of audio per week (dependent on other projects in queue). But I always do my best to accommodate timeline requests where possible.

  • $150 is my preferred PFH, but I do sometimes have flexibility in this area depending on the project.

  • I record in a dedicated WhisperRoom sound booth using a Neuman TLM 102 microphone with a Harbinger LX12 interface to ensure high quality recordings for your project.
